Owen Teague (“IT,” “The Stand,” “Mrs. Fletcher”) has been set to play the lead primate in the first of the next series of “Planet of the Apes” films at 20th Century Studios.
“The Maze Runner” trilogy director Wes Ball takes over helming duties on the project, which is aiming to begin production before year’s end.
Plot specifics about the next chapter are under wraps, but getting the ‘Apes’ franchise going again has been a high priority for Disney ever since it acquired Fox. Ball has been attached since 2019 and delivered a script earlier this Summer that got things moving.
Casting has been underway since June, and while a search is continuing for the main human role, Teague wowed with his screen tests and was offered his role in recent weeks.
