Paul Rudd looks to be joining the cast of “Only Murders in the Building” for its third season.

MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “ONLY MURDERS” S2 FINALE

The hiring follows a cameo appearance by Rudd in the final moments of the show’s second season finale, which sets up his part as the murder victim of the next season.

In the scenes, set one year after the events of the rest of the second season, Martin Short’s theatre director Oliver Putnam make his triumphant return to Broadway with a major new production featuring renowned theatre actor Ben Glenroy (Rudd).

Glenroy has some friction with Steve Martin’s washed-up actor Charles Haden-Savage who is his co-star in the play and who is seen issuing a warning to Glenroy just before its curtain’s up on opening night.

Mere moments after stepping on stage, Glenroy drops dead in front of a horrified audience. Speaking with TV Line, series co-creator John Hoffman was asked if it’s safe to assume Rudd will return to which he responds:

“The hope is that he doesn’t get some huge thing that takes him away [from us], but I’m pretty sure we’re in good shape. Our victims play major parts in the season, so we’re really excited to have him be a part of it.”

In terms of the next season’s status, he says they’re about six weeks into writing on the third season, which is “very twisty”. Of Rudd’s victim, he says the character “is colorfully drawn so far”.
