Rising Egyptian actor Amir El-Masry (“The Night Manager” “Limbo”) has been cast as one incarnation of former Harrods owner and Egyptian billionaire Mohamed al-Fayed in the upcoming fifth season of Netflix’s “The Crown”.

Mohamed was the father of Dodi al-Fayed, Princess Diana’s lover. Both Dodi and Diana died in a car crash in Paris, France in 1997. “The Kite Runner” star Khalid Abdalla and “Tenet” actress Elizabeth Debicki will play the pair in the new season.

71-year-old Salim Daw (“Oslo”) had already been cast as Mohamed al-Fayed for the series, which suggests 31-year-old Amir El-Masry will be playing a younger version of the man in flashbacks.

He joins a cast that includes Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles, and Jonny Lee Miller as Prime Minister John Major.

The fifth season of “The Crown” is targeting a November premiere.
