Disney took to CinemaCon this morning to show off their wares, a big portion of which was its two Marvel Studios Summer 2022 releases – “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Thor: Love and Thunder”.
Whilst there wasn’t much in the way of news out of the event, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was on hand and teased the long-term strategic planning for his company and the future of the cinematic universe they’ve built.
According to Collider, Feige told the audience that he will be heading to a Marvel Studios retreat directly after the CinemaCon event to work on the next decade of stories for the MCU.
The discussion comes as the MCU is opening up its multiverse phase first with “Loki,” then “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and now the new “Doctor Strange”. The company’s fourth ‘phase’, taking us into the end of next year, looks pretty set. It’s what lies beyond that things become more nebulous and what is likely to be mapped out more clearly at this retreat.
The comments come as early ticket sales for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” have reportedly already clocked up $42 million in revenue – the numbers revealed today at the CinemaCon presentation. That film arrives in theaters on May 6th.
