The 94th Academy Awards nominations have just been announced this morning with Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” leading the pack with twelve nominations followed by Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” with ten.
Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” and Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast” came in behind them with seven each, followed by “King Richard” with six.
Four nominations apiece were also given to “Drive My Car,” “Don’t Look Up,” and “Nightmare Alley” while “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” “Coda,” “Encanto,” “Being the Ricardos,””The Lost Daughter” and “Licorice Pizza” nabbed three each.
Notable snubs include no Denis Villeneuve for directing “Dune,” no Lady Gaga for “House of Gucci,” no “Sing 2” for animated feature, and some fans will no doubt be upset “Spider-Man: No Way Home” failed to get anything beyond a VFX nomination even as the more mixed reviewed “Don’t Look Up” and “Nightmare Alley” scored Best Picture nominations.
The lack of a “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” song nomination from “Encanto” has been explained as Disney didn’t submit it for consideration. Here is the full list of nominees:
