Filmmaker Spike Lee is set to produce and direct a new docuseries about the life and career of controversial sports figure/activist Colin Kaepernick.
The midwest-born Kaepernick received worldwide attention in 2016 when the successful NFL quarterback began kneeling during the national anthem before games in protest of police brutality and systemic racism in America.
He was blacklisted from the NFL and essentially lost his athletic career. From there, he has remained an activist speaking out on issues of race.
This series follows in the wake of Ava DuVernay’s six-part docuseries “Colin in Black and White” which was released on Netflix back in October.
A title or release date for Spike Lee’s version hasn’t yet been set.
