Netflix’s “GLOW” may be gone, but the first trailer for the new Apple TV+ series “Physical” may hopefully pick up some of that over the top 1980s style meets adult melancholy and female empowerment it mastered.
Rose Byrne leads this dark comedy set in 1980s San Diego in which quietly tortured, seemingly dutiful housewife Sheila Rubin is battling a complex set of personal demons relating to her self-image – that is until she finds release through the unlikeliest source: the world of aerobics.
She soon discovers a way to merge this newfound passion with videotape technology to start a revolutionary business – taking her from a stifled, overlooked enabler to a powerful, confident economic force as a female lifestyle guru.
Rory Scovel, Dierdre Friel, Della Saba, Lou Taylor Pozci, Paul Sparks, and Ashley Liao co-star in the series which hails from executive producers Byrne, Annie Weisman, Alex Cunningham, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements.
Apple TV+ has set a June 18th premiere date for the new series.
