Penguin Bloom
The Naomi Watts and Andrew Lincoln,-led “Penguin Bloom” will roll out in North America, the U.K., France and select countries in Asia via Netflix on January 27th. Glendyn Ivin directs from a script by Shaun Grant and Harry Cripps.
Watts stars in the real-life survival story of Samantha Bloom, an active and vibrant Australian mom who is paralyzed from the chest down on holiday with her family. Her struggle to forge ahead is helped along by a wounded baby magpie her kids take in, named Penguin. [Source: The Wrap]
The Other Passenger
Actor-turned-director Joseph Cross has picked up the screen rights and plans to direct a film adaptation of Louise Candlish’s best-selling novel “The Other Passenger”. Cross will also produce alongside Lucas Evans for Moving Image Productions.
Jamie travels to work and back by river bus with his younger neighbor Kit. One day Kit doesn’t show up and cops say another passenger saw Kit and Jamie arguing on the boat home the night before. [Source: Variety]
Redd Zone
Jada Pinkett Smith will star in the based on a true story drama feature “Redd Zone” at Netflix and Westbrook Studios. Pinkett Smith plays Tia Magee, a single mother who helps her sons and their high school football teammates, ‘The Bros,’ heal after the murder of their best friend, Dominic Redd. One by one, the boys start moving into her house, and soon, seventeen are living under her roof. Eventually, all of them go to college, and four make it to the NFL. [Source: Variety]
The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat
Tina Mabry and Gina Prince-Bythewood are set to adapt Edward Kelsey Moore’s best-selling novel “The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat” for Searchlight Pictures with Mabry directing and Prince-Bythewood penning the script. The story follows a trio of best friends who consider the titular diner a ‘home away from home’ in their Indiana town. [Source: Outlook India]
Untitled David O. Russell Project
“Joker” and “Chernobyl” composer Hildur Guonadottir will handle the score for filmmaker David O. Russell’s untitled new film. That project will shoot in early 2021 with a cast including Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington. Emmanuel ‘Chivo’ Lubezki serves as cinematographer on the project. [Source: FMR]
