HBO Max Comes To Amazon Fire Tuesday

HBO Max is setting a deal with Amazon which will make the streaming service available on Amazon’s Fire TV devices and services in more than 40 million U.S. homes starting from tomorrow.

WarnerMedia’s HBO Max debuted in May 27th and has been activated by 8.6 million customers as of September 30th, most of which are current subscribers of HBO able to access HBO Max at no extra charge.

At launch HBO Max only had a deal with one of the three major non-game console media player devices on the market – Apple TV. The other two, Amazon Fire and Roku, it did not have a distribution deal with due to drawn out negotiations.

Now it has finally settled on one with Amazon, while Roku remains a holdout. Terms were not disclosed for the Amazon deal, but once the arrangement takes effect on Tuesday then the HBO app on Fire TV and Fire tablets will automatically be updated to become HBO Max.

Customers will be able to log in using their existing HBO credentials, while new customers can also subscribe to HBO Max directly in the app. All existing HBO Max customers will now have access via Fire TV and Fire tablet devices using their existing accounts.

Early progress of the new service has been subdued compared to rivals, WarnerMedia says it is on track or even slightly ahead of internal five-year subscriber projections.
