New “Soul” Trailer Highlights Disney+ Launch

With Disney having firmly decided that “Soul” is skipping cinemas and going direct to the Disney+ streaming service, the company is now doubling down on that choice.

A new trailer has just been released with the fixed date of a Christmas Day launch on Disney+ front and center, making parents aware their kids will have something to watch for the holiday.

The trailer follows in the wake of the first reviews for the film which is rocking a 100% (8.29/10) on Rotten Tomatoes with twenty reviews counted. Almost all dub it a real return to form for Pixar.

The film follows Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx), a middle-school band teacher with a serious passion for jazz music. A small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks, and interests before they go to Earth.

Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22 (voiced by Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions.

Pete Docter helms the film which also stars Phylicia Rashad, Ahmir Questlove Thompson, Angela Bassett, and Daveed Diggs. Musician Jon Batiste and Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are handling the film’s music.
