CBS All Access Sets “Star Trek Day”

Seeing the success of the DC FanDome virtual convention, CBS All Access is hoping to achieve a little bit of similar success with plans for a 24-hour virtual celebration called ‘Star Trek Day’.

Taking place on Tuesday September 8th (the same day the original series debuted on TV), the full-on celebration will have exclusive panel programming and initiatives from all of the series to have aired since the original in 1966 and the one that has yet to arrive.

There will be panels kicking off from Noon US-ET for basically all the series with actors like Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, George Takei, Scott Bakula and numerous cast members from The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, Discovery and Lower Decks all on hand.

There will also be one for “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” the new Enterprise-set series starring Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck all reprising their roles of Pike, Number One and Spock respectively from the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery”.

Executive producers Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers; and co-executive producers Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will also be on hand for that.

There will also be a livestreamed marathon of episodes from eight different series running through the entire duration of the virtual celebration aside from the panels. The marathon will not be available to audiences outside the United States.

What this will actually yield is not clear. An extended preview for the third season of “Star Trek: Discovery” arriving in October is very likely. ‘Strange New Worlds’ hasn’t begun filming but further casting/director announcements are quite possible. The announcement of the long-demanded HD remaster of Deep Space Nine would be the biggest win though chances are next to nil.
