Live-Action Marvel “Silk” Series In Works

Spider-Man spin-off character Silk could be the next Marvel character to get her own TV series.

Variety broke the news, reporting that Sony, who controls the rights to the Spider-Man universe, is developing such a live-action series about the Korean-American character and Lauren Moon (“Atypical,” “Good Trouble”) is in talks to write it.

In addition, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are executive producing under their Lord Miller production banner along with former Sony Pictures Entertainment head Amy Pascal.

The character is Cindy Moon, a Korean-American classmate of Peter Parker who is bitten by a radioactive spider which gives her the ability to move at incredible speed, shoot webs out of her fingertips and possess an advanced Spider-Sense. Tiffany Espensen played Cindy in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” but it’s not clear if she’ll star in the series.

No network or streaming service is currently attached, but sources say Amazon is in talks to acquire the project along with other potential series based on characters part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (S.P.U.M.C.). Lord and Miller signed an overall deal to develop such projects with “Silk” being the first.

The report follows on from talk last year of a potential Silk stand-alone film being in development. Several other SPUMC films are in the works including a “Madame Webb” film and Olivia Wilde directing a “Spider-Woman” feature.
