“Mindhunter” Third Season Remains Unlikely

Netflix and David Fincher’s acclaimed drama series “Mindhunter,” about the early origins of the FBI’s investigations into serial killers and their behavior, has aired only two seasons thus far with both scoring much acclaim.

Sadly though, no-one seems to be sure whether or not the show will come back for another. No renewal order has been handed out even though we’re almost a year on since the second season arrived. In fact Netflix put the show on “indefinite hold” in January and several of those involved have spoken about their doubts over whether it will ever come back.

That hasn’t changed today as one of the series’ cinematographers Erik Messerschmidt tells Collider that while he’d absolutely be up for doing more, he’s as in the dark as the rest of us:

“We just finished this movie [“Mank”] and I’ve heard things are on hold for a little bit. We’ll see. Who knows? But it would be an honor to go back. I love working with David and adore the cast and the crew, and it’s been an incredible period of my life for certain. I’ve been really blessed to have the opportunity to work on it and contribute to it. It’s been particularly important and poignant in my career. But yeah, I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going on.”

Messerschmidt has meanwhile been working on Fincher’s new film “Mank” also for Netflix, that one a black and white feature about the “Citizen Kane” screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz. Messerschmidt calls the black-and-white a “fantastic medium to work in… [it’s] the opportunity to perfect the perfect French omelet, just a couple ingredients is all you kind of get.”

Netflix has yet to announce when “Mank” will be released though it’s expected to arrive probably around October.
