The “Justice League” film had a famously troubled production, and one person who bore the brunt of it more than some of the others in the cast was Ray Fisher.
The actor who played Cyborg was an unknown with “Justice League” his first and only real feature to date beyond a cameo in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and a more regular TV role in the third season of “True Detective”.
“Justice League” famously lost original director Zack Snyder who exited the project following principal photography, with Joss Whedon coming onboard to reshoot and finish the film. Fisher was initially supportive of Whedon coming in, but now he’s categorically retracted that support.
Fisher posted a tweet today including a video of himself promoting the superhero movie at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con. In the video he’s answering a fan question saying: “Joss is a great guy and Zack picked a good person to come in and clean up, finish up for him.” With that video though he’s added the caption: “I’d like to take a moment to forcefully retract every bit of this statement.”
Whedon reportedly wrote around 80 script pages worth of new material, and cinematographer Fabian Wagner has estimated that only 10% of what Zack Snyder shot was included in the final product.
Fisher has in the past expressed his displeasure with how Justice League’s theatrical cut turned out and has repeatedly praised Snyder over the years – he was also one of the most vocal supporters of the Snyder Cut which is coming to HBO Max in 2021.
