Game developer CD Projekt Red and anime studio Studio Trigger have announced “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” a ten-episode anime series based on the highly-anticipated video game “Cyberpunk 2077” arriving in November.
“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” centers on a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city by becoming a mercenary outlaw called an edgerunner, AKA a cyberpunk.
Hiroyuki Imaishi will helm the animated series which will premiere in 2022 on Netflix. The streaming giant has had great success with “The Witcher,” the live-action adaptation of the books that also inspired CD Projekt Red’s most successful game franchise to date.
CD Projekt Red has also offered a new look at the story of the game in a new trailer filled with gameplay from the title which is set in the fictional world of Night City, California in the year 2077.
The world is broken while MegaCorps manage every aspect of life from the top floors of their sky-scraping fortresses. The streets are run by drug-pushing gangs, tech hustlers, and illegal braindance slingers. The in-between is where decadence, sex, and pop culture mix with violent crime, extreme poverty, and the unattainable promise of the American Dream.
The game will hit PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC on November 19th.
