Nickelodeon Reboots “Smurfs” For New Series

ViacomCBS’ Nickelodeon has closed a deal with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, the worldwide licensors of “The Smurfs,” with plans to launch a new animated series and consumer products across numerous countries including the U.S. and United Kingdom.

The plan is to reboot the franchise with a new series and produce a new product line tied into it with toys, stationery, apparel, and packaged goods all planned to launch at retail in 2022.

The new adventures of Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty, Clumsy and more are expected to debut in 2021 in the U.S. followed by Nickelodeon channels internationally.

The series will be produced by Peyo Productions and Dupuis Edition & Audiovisuel, directed by William Renaud and written by Peter Saisselin and Amy Serafin.
