Netflix’s Steve Carrell-led new comedy “Space Force” has drawn tepid reviews ahead of its debut this coming Friday on the streaming surfsce.
Pulling in a very tepid 49/100 on Metacritic, complaints often center on the tone which is much more dramatic than expected. Daily Beast calls it: “largely unfunny, has no sense of perspective or tone… offers little to warrant a recommendation.” Rolling Stone asks: “How did this happen, though? How did so much talent and money go to such waste?”
The show joins a number of notable critical flops launched recently including “White Lines” (50), “Love Life” (52), “Snowpiercer” (54), “Hollywood” (55), “Hightown” (60), “Defending Jacob” (61), “Outer Banks” (61), “Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels” (63) and “Baptiste” (63).
Others have been more middling like “The Eddy” (65), “I Know This Much Is True” (66), “Upload” (66), “Tales from the Loop” (66), “Stargirl” (67), “Trying” (67), “AKA Jane Roe” (67), “Barkskins” (70), “Belgravia” (70) and “Solar Opposites” (70).
Only handful have snagged true acclaim with such as “World on Fire” (74), “The Great” (77), “Betty” (78), “Central Park” (79), “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Vs. The Reverend” (80), “Normal People” (84), “Mrs. America” (87) and “The Last Dance” (91).
“Space Force” premieres on Netflix this Friday March 29th.
