Holland On Sony’s “Spider-Man 3” Plans

A couple of weeks there last year, Sony and Disney seemed to be at an impasse and so a third Tom Holland-led “Spider-Man” film set within the MCU seemed to be out of the question – Sony was going to go it alone.

Then, following some more negotiations and Tom Holland himself getting involved, the two studios came to an agreement to do at least one more “Spider-Man” film together and another non Spider-Man Marvel project.

In a new interview with MTV News this week, Holland revealed that Sony did have a contingency plan in place if the Disney negotiations completely fell through.

“The future for Spider-Man was still very bright with Sony. We had a really, really wonderful idea how we could sort of transition into a Spider-Man without the MCU. Tom Rothman and Amy Pascal were really confident that they were gonna do justice and make a film of the caliber that Spider-Man requires.

But that said, I’m really glad to be back in the MCU and to have the team back together because I kind of feel like it’s where he belongs now. I’m really grateful that Bob Iger and Tom Rothman allowed me to be a part of the process of bringing him home. It was a pretty cool experience and also the best bragging rights ever, I saved Spider-Man.”

While both Disney and Sony have since expressed optimism another deal could take place beyond the current one, but if it doesn’t then the aforementioned plan could probably still be used. The third “Spider-Man” is expected to begin filming in July and Holland says he knows the film’s whole story after a meeting with Marvel and Sony two weeks ago.

The next “Spider-Man” will hit cinemas July 16th 2021.
