Fourth “Matrix” Causing Minor Property Damage

The fourth film in “The Matrix” franchise has been shooting in San Francisco in recent weeks and the production is said to be utilising a bunch of practical effects.

What does this mean? Explosions, big ones, and the work has been so ambitious it is apparently causing some very minor property damage to the city.

NBCBayArea reports that heat from some explosions shot on Market Street over the weekend was hot enough to melt the covers of several building lamps and an advertising street sign around the shoot. Workers who replaced the damaged equipment said it cost around $2,000 to fix.

Hollywood Pipeline has details on the shoot, with the scene involving agents and civilians chasing down Neo and Trinity in a dramatic showdown.

“Sense8” duo Erendira Ibarra and Brian J. Smith were spotted in action on the scenes. Ibarra sported a cropped green jacket and a futuristic hairstyle. Speculation was Smith would play an agent, but he’s seen with a military buzzcut and in dressed down casual wear in the photos.

Keanu Reeves’ Neo was seen engaging in a shoot out with civilians who appear programmed to come after Neo as he tries to get away on his motorcycle. Several extras also lept off a large hydraulic crane and remain suspended – jumping to take chase.

Production is scheduled to continue in the city through next weekend. You can see video of some of the filming taking place below. The film itself arrives Summer 2021.
