Apple has handed out an eight-episode, straight-to-series order for an event series adaptation of Stephen King’s 2006 horror-romance best-selling novel “Lisey’s Story”.
The deeply personal thriller follows Lisey two years after the death of her husband. The story explores a series of events that causes her to begin facing amazing realities about her husband that she had repressed and forgotten.
Oscar winner Julianne Moore will star in the series and, in a rare move, King himself will pen all eight episodes of the drama. In addition, J.J. Abrams will executive produce through his Bad Robot Productions alongside Moore, King and Ben Stephenson.
Apple won the project following a multiple outlet bidding war and a high-profile director is now being sought for the series. Abrams and King previously teamed on Hulu’s “11.22.63” and “Castle Rock”.
The news comes as the film adaptation of King’s “Pet Sematary” overperformed at the box office over the weekend with a strong $25 million in North America.
