Danny Boyle On “28 Years Later 3” Shoot

Sony Pictures

At last report, the fate of a third “28 Years Later” seemed up in the air following soft box-office for the first film and disastrous box-office for the second, even though critical acclaim was high for both.

Then, nearly three weeks ago, young actor Alfie Williams seemed to tease that movement on the third film was underway when he posted a video of himself practising archery.

Today, filmmaker Danny Boyle himself has spoken about it during a chat with JoBlo.

Boyle says a third film remains in the works, and he still plans to direct, but the production hit a scheduling snare that forced Sony to delay filming until next year. He explains:

“We ran out of time, because it’s set in an area of Britain [where] you can only film at certain times of the year. We ran out of time this year – we literally ran out of time. So it’ll be, hopefully, fingers crossed next year, but there’s the enthusiasm there, and Alex [Garland] has done a wonderful script for it.”

Boyle is currently at work on the Jack O’Connell-led newspaper drama “Ink” opening next year.
