Idris Elba Turns Kickboxer For TV Series

Actor, DJ and producer Idris Elba is buffing up even more than usual for the upcoming limited series “Idris Elba: Fighter”. The “Luther” and “The Wire” star will be the center of Discovery’s three-part hourlong factual series in which he’ll undertake the physically and mentally demanding task of training to become a professional kickboxer. Ultimately he’ll compete against a seasoned brawler in a no-holds-barred bout.

The series is described as intimate and offering a window onto Elba the man who will push himself to the limit to overcome pain and fear, master specialized techniques and skills, and ensure both his body and mind are fit. He will receive mentoring from former world champions, trainers and coaches, and travel the world to incorporate unorthodox training methods and regimens. Elba did fitness kickboxing in his 20s, but it’s a different kettle of fish now that he’s 43.

The program follows on from Elba and Discovery’s collaboration on racing program “No Limits”. The show was shot on location in the UK, Cuba, Japan, South Africa and Thailand and will air across more than 220 countries beginning in early 2017. Check out the recent social media selfie that Elba has posted.

Cutting weight, two days before first fight, mind in the right place. Fear NO guy.
