Starz and Lionsgate Television are set to produce a revival series of its hit dark comedy “Weeds”. The new series picks up with the Botwin family a decade later in an era of legalization.
Original series lead Mary-Louise Parker is attached to both star in and executive produce the potential new series which hails from original series writer and co-executive producer Victoria Morrow. “Weeds” creator Jenji Kohan is not attached at this time.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed the news on the company’s earnings call on Thursday saying the project is in “active development” at Starz and is currently being dubbed “Weeds 4.20”.
“Weeds” ran on Showtime from 2005-2012, scoring critical acclaim and 20 Emmy nominations over the course of its run.
