“Saturday Night Live” scrbes Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell have been hired to pen the script for “Space Camp,” a Disney+ film remake of the iconic 1980s teen space adventure.
The original follows a group of teens attending an astronaut camp near Cape Canaveral, Florida. Allowed to sit in a space shuttle during a routine engine test, the group finds itself in a life or death predicament when they are accidentally launched into space.
They must then work together to find oxygen and ultimately bring the shuttle home for a landing. Lea Thompson, Kelly Preston, Tate Donovan and a young Joaquin Phoenix co-starred in the film which was a bit of a flop as it was released just months after the Challenger disaster.
Since then though it has grown something of a cult audience. John Rickard (“Rampage”) will produce the new film. Day and Seidell are also penning the “Home Alone” reboot and a new live-action “Inspector Gadget”.
