Amazon Prime Video has reportedly handed out a renewal for a sixth season of its Alan Ritchson-led “Reacher” series.
The order comes just under two weeks after the fourth season aired its finale, and four months after the official fifth season order was handed out.
This marks the first time the show has received two renewals in the same year. The fifth season began production in late July in Toronto, and the early renewal allows the series to stay at a consistent release cadence.
The gap between the third and fourth season was 18 months; the renewals suggest Amazon is intent on shrinking that window to closer to one year.
While the fifth season will be based on “Make Me,” the 20th book in author Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, it has not been determined yet which novel will serve as source material for the sixth season run.
The fourth season of “Reacher” has reportedly pulled in 66 million viewers globally in its first 28 days on Prime Video, surpassing the third season’s performance. More than half audience is based internationally, with outsized performance in the UK, Germany and Brazil.
While the second season still rates higher, the second and fourth seasons are now among the five most-viewed seasons of any original series in the platform’s history alongside the first seasons of “Fallout” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”.
Also recently released is the spin-off “Neagley” which is reportedly “looking good” for a Season 2 renewal.
