We’re a little over a month away from the arrival of the first live-action “Star Wars” TV series, “The Mandalorian,” and around two-and-a-half months away from J.J. Abrams’ film “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” closing out a nine-film saga that began over forty years ago.
Ahead of those, some new photos and magazine covers touting the film have gone up at Empire with the shots teasing both Kylo Ren’s helmet and Rey’s lightsaber, both of which have been reforged.
Within the magazine, writer Chris Terrio says that the new film will go even further than ‘Last Jedi’ did in exploring the complicated Kylo Ren/Rey relationship: “there’s a nakedness about him with Rey that he doesn’t express to anyone else. Rian developed that in fascinating ways and we’ve been able to develop it even further.”
Abrams meanwhile wanted to make it clear to the outlet that he’s not planning on really retconning anything Rian Johnson did with “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”:
“I never found myself trying to repair anything. If I had done VIII, I would have done things differently, just as Rian [Johnson] would have done things differently if he had done VII. But having worked on television series, I was accustomed to creating stories and characters that then were run by other people.
If you’re willing to walk away from the thing that you created and you believe it’s in trustworthy hands, you have to accept that some of the decisions being made are not gonna be the same that you would make. And if you come back into it, you have to honor what’s been done.”
Amongst the photos are new shots of the Knights of Ren, and another of Kylo Ren himself appearing to be either in a decompressing shuttle bay or being hit by a force burst.
There’s also a shot of the title character from “The Mandalorian” series, via IGN, showing Pedro Pascal’s titular bounty hunter sitting in his ship The Razor Crest.
