Filmmaker Fede Alvarez has confirmed that a third movie in the “Don’t Breathe” franchise is in the works.
The news came out of a 10th-anniversary screening of the original film as part of Beyond Fest at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. The American Cinematheque event drew Álvarez, co-writer Rodo Sayagues, and stars Jane Levy, Stephen Lang, and Dylan Minnette for the Q&A.
Alvarez confirmed that not only is a third entry coming, but a script has already been written and both Levy and Lang’s characters will return.
The 2016 film follows three young burglars who break into a blind veteran’s Detroit home, believing they’ve found an easy target. Instead, they find themselves trapped with a man whose capabilities and secrets are far more terrifying than they anticipated.
Earning more than $157 million worldwide from a $10 million budget, along with quite good reviews, a sequel was greenlit. However, that sequel, released in 2021, only focused on Lang’s character and saw Sayagues take over as director.
The third entry will see Levy return to the franchise, her Rocky and Lang’s Blind Man finally settling the score, it seems.
Levy stars alongside Jessica Rothe in Joshua Giuliano’s slasher “River” which will open in cinemas January 15th.
