Paramount Pictures has confirmed that the upcoming “Call of Duty” film adaptation, from “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, will be based on the ‘Modern Warfare’ branch of the games.
Activision’s highly popular franchise has spanned around two dozen entries to date. Within that, there are some more standalone-style titles like ‘Ghosts,’ ‘Infinite Warfare,’ ‘Vanguard,’ ‘Advanced Warfare,’ ‘WW2,’ etc.
The majority of the games are either ‘Black Ops’ titles, of which there are seven, or ‘Modern Warfare’ titles, which get a seventh overall entry this year.
The reveal took place during a Call of Duty in Culture Panel at Fanatics Fest in NYC on Saturday. The film’s director and co-writer Peter Berg took the stage to reveal the news.
Many of the ‘Modern Warfare’ games are set in the Middle East and follow Captain John Price (Barry Sloane), Sergeant Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick (Elliot Knight), Captain John ‘Soap’ MacTavish (Kevin McKidd) and the Task Force 141 team.
It’s assumed at least some of those characters will make the jump, whether the same actors will tag along with them is unclear but Sloane, Knight, McKidd and other actors in these games like Claudia Doumit or Luke Cook are all familiar faces from TV shows like “The Boys,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” “Countdown” and “Six”.
The new “Call of Duty” film opens in cinemas on June 30th 2028.
