Columbus, Spielberg Set “Gremlins 3” For 2027

Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Bros. Pictures is set to revive its “Gremlins” franchise, the company confirming that not only is the project happening, but it has already locked a date.

Speaking during Warner Bros. Discovery’s third-quarter earnings call on Thursday, CEO David Zaslav announced the greenlight of a new “Gremlins” film.

Steven Spielberg is back on board as executive producer via his Amblin Entertainment label.

Also on board is the original film’s writer, Chris Columbus, who will produce and direct the film. Scripting duties are going to “Final Destination: Bloodlines” duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who will work with Columbus.

A November 19th 2027, release date has been set for the project, though a big question will be about tone.

The original 1984 film was a dark comedy with horror elements and was a big success, grossing $151 million domestically from an $11 million budget.

The sequel in 1990, “Gremlins 2: The New Batch,” was much more a comedy, one effectively satirising the first film – that movie made just $41 million at the box office but has its share of fans too.

Warners had been gauging interest in the property via the animated series “Secrets of the Mogwai” which launched in 2023.

Columbus, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Holly Bario, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe produce.
