The line-up for this year’s Venice Film Festival has been announced, the event running in the Italian city from August 27th – September 6th.
Some major names are in competition in the festival that often sees the biggest awards contenders debut there.
The list this year includes major titles like Guillermo del Toro’s lengthy (149 minutes) “Frankenstein,” Kathryn Bigelow’s “A House of Dynamite,” Benny Safdie’s “The Smashing Machine,” Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt,” Noah Baumbach’s “Jay Kelly,” and Yorgos Lantihmos’ “Bugonia”.
There’s also Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice,” Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother,” Oliver Assayas’ “The Wizard of the Kremlin,” Paolo Sorrentino’s “La Grazia,” Laszlo Nemes’ “Orphan,” Francois Ozon’s “L’Etranger,” Julian Schnabel’s “In the Hand of Dante,” and Mike Figgis’s “Megadoc”.
That’s not all as Werner Herzog’s “Ghost Elephants,” Gus Van Sant’s “Dead Man’s Wire,” Sofia Coppola’s “Marc by Sofia,” Lucrecia Martel’s “Landmarks,” Ildiko Enyedi’s “Silent Friend,” and Mona Fastvold’s “The Testament of Ann Lee,” along with a Charlie Kaufman-directed short “How to Shoot a Ghost” all screen.
Alexander Payne heads the Competition jury joined by Stéphane Brizé, Maura Delpero, Cristian Mungiu, Mohammad Rasoulof, Fernanda Torres and Zhao Tao.
