Netflix used today’s Tudum event to announce both returning and new cast members set to join in the fun of the second season of “Squid Game” which
Returning from the first season are Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man, Gong Yoo as the recruiter, and Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-ho, which indicates he survived his fall from a cliff last season.
Joining them are Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-nuel, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun in undisclosed roles. Filming on the new run is expected to begin this Summer and will likely last for an expected ten months.
“Squid Game” premiered as a Netflix original in late 2021 and quickly became a global sensation, racking up 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the first 28 days after its premiere.
To this day it remains Netflix’s single biggest series success story and helped usher in a wave of successful content launches from Korea in subsequent months. Its star Lee Jung-jae has recently had a major role in the upcoming “Star Wars: The Acolyte” TV series which has been in production in the UK.
A release of the second season is not expected until late 2024 at the earliest or possibly sometime in 2025.
