Billy Magnussen, Jessica Hynes, Darren Goldstein, Lolly Adefope, and Isaac Powell have all been cast as series regulars in HBO’s comedy pilot “The Franchise”.
The story follows a hopeful crew trapped inside the dysfunctional, nonsensical, joyous hellscape of franchise superhero movie-making.
If and when they finally make the day, the question they must face – is this Hollywood’s new dawn or cinema’s last stand?
Meanwhile, Daniel Brühl and Richard E. Grant have landed recurring guest roles in the series which “Veep” and “Avenue 5” creator Armando Iannucci executive produces.
“Skyfall” filmmaker Sam Mendes came up with the original idea for the show and put the project together, with Jon Brown penning the pilot along with serving as executive producer and showrunner.
The pilot was originally commissioned at HBO in August, and Mendes will direct it – his first TV effort.
Keith Akushie, Marina Hyde, Jim Kleverweis, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, and Julie Pastor also executive produce.
