Hans Zimmer Gets A BBC2 Documentary

BBC Two has announced “Hans Zimmer – Hollywood Rebel,” an hour-long documentary about the life and work of Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.

The docu-feature looks back at Zimmer’s 40-year journey from post-war Germany to Hollywood royalty and covers some of his most famous film scores. In the late 1980s & 1990s his work included “Rain Man,” “Backdraft,” “Thelma & Louise,” “A League of Their Own,” “The Lion King,” “Crimson Tide,” “The Rock,” “As Good as It Gets,” “The Prince of Egypt” and “The Thin Red Line”.

Things only picked up in the 2000s with “Gladiator,” “Black Hawk Down,” “Pearl Harbor,” “Hannibal,” “The Ring,” “The Last Samurai,” “King Arthur,” “Batman Begins,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “The Da Vinci Code,” “The Simpsons Movie,” “Kung Fu Panda,” “The Dark Knight,” “Frost/Nixon,” “Angels and Demons” and “Sherlock Holmes”.

In the 2010s, his work included “Inception,” “Rango,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Man of Steel,” “12 Years a Slave,” “The Lone Ranger,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Interstellar,” “Hidden Figures,” “Dunkirk,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and “Widows”.

More recently, he was involved in “Wonder Woman 1984,” “Dune: Part One,” “No Time to Die” and “Top Gun: Maverick”. He’s also created the theme music for multiple shows, including “Space Rangers,” “The Pacific,” “The Bible,” “Sons of Liberty,” “The Crown,” and various BBC works like “Planet Earth II,” “Blue Planet II” and “Frozen Planet II”.

The film features interviews with his various collaborators over the years, including Ron Howard, Denis Villeneuve, Christopher Nolan, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Barry Levinson, James L. Brooks, Gore Verbinski, Steve McQueen, Stephen Frears and Tim Bevan.

“Hans Zimmer – Hollywood Rebel” will air on BBC Two on October 16th.
