A month after “WandaVision” director Matt Shakman exited the project, Paramount Pictures has removed the untitled fourth J.J. Abrams-produced “Star Trek” sequel from its film slate.
The move is not unexpected with the film having been dated to hit cinemas on December 22nd 2023. By this point the project should be well on its way towards shooting, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The film was nominally set to be the fourth one for the crew of the 2009 screen reboot with Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones, John Cho as Sulu and Simon Pegg as Scotty.
Shakman, who had been attached for over a year, was successfully snatched by Marvel Studios to helm its “Fantastic Four” reboot which is targeting a November 2024 release. Shakman came aboard that project after director Jon Watts left that film in April.
The last Trek film was 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond” which had the lowest gross of the recent three.
