Actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki played brothers together for fifteen years on The CW’s “Supernatural,” both of them proving integral to keeping that show going from 2005 right up to the finale last year.
Both of them have now moved onto other projects – Padalecki is leading The CW’s “Walker” while Ackles has scored a key role in the third season of Amazon’s “The Boys”.
Yesterday came word that Ackles is spearheading a “Supernatural” prequel series about the early times of their character’s parents – John and Mary Winchester. Ackles and his wife Danneel are executive producing that series with Ackles’ Dean Winchester character serving as narrator on the show.
In the wake of that news, Padalecki has surprised many with a tweet congratulating Ackles but making the point the news stories were the first he’d heard anything about this, responding to Ackles linking a story on the announcement with:
“Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”
Fans thought he was joking, he explained he wasn’t and said: “This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted.”
Warner Bros. Television produced “Supernatural” and has an overall deal with Ackles’ Chaos Machine Productions which produces the series. Robbie Thompson will pen and executive produce.
UPDATE: Padalecki has now posted the following: “Jensen Ackles and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good. The show is early in the process with miles to go. We’ve travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers. #spnfamily”.
