Netflix has handed out $30 million to acquire worldwide rights to the upcoming remake of Gustav Moller’s single location thriller “The Guilty” which will star Jake Gyllenhaal and be directed by Antoine Fuqua.
The story unfolds over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center – call operator Joe Bayler (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger but soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.
The new version will be penned by “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto. Fuqua, who previously worked with Gyllenhaal on “Southpaw,” will shoot the film later this year and before going to work on the Will Smith-led “Emancipation” for Apple TV+.
The original Danish drama premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews and is available now on Hulu and other digital platforms.
