Break out your best adult diaper because the long awaited sequel to 1988 comedy classic “Coming to America” is going to be so good you’ll lose control of your bodily functions according to the humorous remarks of one of its key new additions – action legend Wesley Snipes.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight recently, Snipes talked about his role in the film which is as the villain General Izzi, the leader of a rival country to Zamunda and big brother to Vanessa Bell Calloway’s Imani Izzi from the first film. Of his role he says: “[I’m] the one that is making sure that everything in the whole region is under control. My name is General Izzi. We can make it hard or we can do it easy. It is up to you.”
Snipes originally auditioned for the role of Darryl Jenks in the first film, a part which ultimately went to future “E.R.” actor Eriq La Salle:
“I think it was myself, Eriq La Salle, and I want to say Mario Van Peebles were the finalist in getting that role – and I didn’t get it. I remember [being] in my bathroom, in front of the mirror, and the Denzel Washington tear running down my face. So sad. I thought my career was over. How could I lose that opportunity to work with Eddie Murphy?”
Things came back around for Snipes with a sequel which Eddie Murphy previously promised was even funnier than the original. Snipes backs up that claim, saying:
“You’re going to have to wear a diaper! You’re going to have to put something or some pad underneath because you’re going to just leak all over yourself. I am telling you.”
Snipes also indicates that this was a breezy production, the cast seemingly had a blast making the film which also stars Arsenio Hall, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos,James Earl Jones, Louie Anderson, Calloway, KiKi Layne, Nomzamo Mbatha, Garcelle Beauvais and Rick Ross.
At present, the film remains scheduled to be in cinemas on December 18th.
