The Television Academy has announced the nominations for the 72nd Emmy Awards with Jimmy Kimmel set to host the ceremony on ABC on September 20th – the first major Hollywood awards ceremony of the coronavirus pandemic era.
Three-time Emmy nominee Leslie Jones was joined by actors Laverne Cox, Josh Gad and Tatiana Maslany to reveal the list of nominees. Kimmel, who is also producing the 72nd annual broadcast, says: “I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it.”
HBO’s celebrated “Watchmen” mini-series scored the most nominations with 26, ahead of Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” with 20; “Ozark” and “Succession” with 18 each; and “The Mandalorian,” SNL and “Schitt’s Creek” with 15 each. Others who also scored fire or more nominations includes “The Crown,” “Hollywood,” “Westworld,” “Mrs. America,” “Killing Eve,” “Stranger Things,” “Better Call Saul,” “Big Little Lies” and “Star Trek: Picard”.
Netflix had the most nominations with 160 in all, HBO coming in second with 107 followed far behind by NBC with 47 in third. The nominations come as the entertainment industry is just beginning to reboot production following several months of shutdowns. Here’s the full list:
