Snyder’s “League” Will Have No Whedon Clips

The tease over the new cut of 2017’s “Justice League” got a little interesting today following a Q&A with filmmaker Zack Snyder this weekend where he answered some questions and teased the arrival of the first trailer next month.

Speaking at “Justice Con” last night, Snyder made it abundantly clear that the film he will deliver will not use any footage shot by filmmaker Joss Whedon during the additional filming on the project.

Whedon famously took over the project after Snyder had to step away due to a family tragedy, resulting in a messy film that has been heavily criticised. The new cut due next year on HBO Max is Snyder’s chance to ‘right those wrongs’ per se and he’s intent on doing it without any help from Whedon whom he says he had zero involvement in choosing to take over from him:

“There would be no chance on Earth that I would use a shot that was made after I left the movie. There would be no way…I would rather, I would destroy the movie, I would set it on fire before I would use a single frame that I did not photograph. That is f–ing hard fact. By the way, anything you see in this movie that reminds you of the other theatrical movie would be because that’s a thing I had done and now it’s been borrowed.”

Right now, the new take is going by the name “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” in promotional materials and there has been rumors of everything from a four hour film to it being in the form of an event series. Snyder dismisses the reports, offering a runtime and admitting the title and format isn’t set in stone as yet:

“You know it’s really…the name of the movie as ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ is the name that we all want. It’s the name we are working on. It’s legal reasons that restrict it, but we’re trying to work that out. I suppose that’s the cool name for it.

I think I did tell Grace that it was longer than 214 [minutes now]. Either way, a hundred percent I’ll be happy. Look, the truth is, regardless of how it comes out, you’ll always be able to watch it [in one sitting.”

As for whether his Justice League will be presented as a massive movie or a limited series, Snyder promised that the answer to that question is coming at DC FanDome.

“You will, you’ll find out at FanDome. But I think I did tell Grace that it was longer than 214 [minutes now]. Either way, a hundred percent I’ll be happy. Look, the truth is, regardless of how it comes out, you’ll always be able to watch it [in one sitting].”

Finally, Snyder confirmed that the teaser trailer will be released during DC’s FanDome event next month.
