Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly reaching out to international exhibitors about a potential late August launch for Christopher Nolan’s time inversion spy thriller “Tenet”.
According to Variety, theater owners in the U.K., France and Spain have all been told by the studio to plan for an August 26th-28th launch.
Dates are not confirmed, but talks are said to be positive and it’s understood the studio is also aiming to release the film early in Asia. All of these plans are in flux though if the situation worsens.
The tipping point of the plan is said to have been the re-opening of China cinemas this past week and the strong performance of the “Train to Busan” sequel “Peninsula” in those markets it has opened.
Warners said earlier this week they are not treating the film like a traditional global day-and-date release any longer, though the move now raises concerns over potential piracy and spoiler discussion.
