Taika Waititi Confirmed To Helm “Star Wars” Film

It’s official, Oscar winner Taika Waititi (“Jojo Rabbit”) will direct and co-write a new “Star Wars” feature film for theatrical release.

The franchise’s official site made the announcement today, confirming rumors that have been swirling for months. Waititi will be joined on the script by Oscar nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“1917,” “Last Night in Soho”)

This won’t be Waititi’s first brush with the franchise, he directed the widely-acclaimed first season finale episode of “The Mandalorian” on Disney+. That series is currently in post-production of its second season.

Emmy-nominated writer Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”) is also currently developing a new untitled “Star Wars” series for Disney+ which she will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner.
