“Macbeth” Stalls, “Space Jam 2” Continues

Joel Coen’s adaptation of the William Shakespeare play “Macbeth” has unsurprisingly postponed its Los Angeles shoot.

Macbeth follows a Scottish lord who becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he is destined to become king of Scotland. With the help of his ambitious wife, he goes to extreme and violent lengths to seize the crown.

Denzel Washington stars as Macbeth with Frances McDormand as Lady Macbeth, Brendan Gleeson as Duncan, Corey Hawkins as Macduff and Harry Melling as Malcolm.

While that film isn’t going ahead for now, one that is apparently still moving forward is the “Space Jam” sequel. Los Angeles Lakers superstar Lebron James, guest appearing on the Road Trippin’ Podcast, offered an update on the sequel. He says with the film being mostly animated, it has worked in its favor:

“Space Jam has always been scheduled to come out in June of 2021. So we’re kind of [OK]. And a lot of it right now is animation, so being indoors is actually great for us. So we’re still on. Just like everything in the world, everything is slowed down a little bit, but we’re still on target.

I’m looking forward to it. During this time right now, I wish we could release it right now, man, and give people some things to watch in their households. But we got until next year, next summer. We’re excited about it.”

From the sounds of it, “Space Jam 2” may be one film not heavily impacted by the shutdown, assuming it remains relatively contained and doesn’t drag out.
