The announcement the other day of the casting of Rosario Dawson as the live-action Ahsoka Tano in the second season of Lucasfilm’s “The Mandalorian” brought joy, but also a little sadness.
On the one hand fans have long been keen to see the animated character rendered in the flesh, and Dawson was a fan favourite bit of casting for the role. On the other, it also means that the character’s voice actress Ashley Eckstein wouldn’t get to play the part.
Eckstein was the one that brought the character to life in both “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars: Rebels” and there were some understandably upset she wouldn’t get to do it again. Well, Eckstein has decided to assuage concerns via a very diplomatic Instagram post. She says:
“It has been my dream for 14 years to continue to play Ahsoka Tano in all forms. I will continue to be grateful for opportunities to help create stories for Ahsoka Tano and I am always happy to see her legacy continue. I am only one member of a tremendously talented team of people that it takes to bring Ahsoka Tano to life. The final decisions for Ahsoka are not mine to make and I cannot comment on something that I truly know nothing about.”
The second season of the series wrapped filming earlier this year and is in post-production ahead of a launch in the last quarter of the year on the Disney+ streaming service.
