Amazon Cancels Five Series, Teases More

Amazon came out swinging at the Television Critics Association Press Tour this week, making a slew of announcements along with releasing some trailers for their upcoming content.

Along with the already reported on renewals of “The Expanse” and “Carnival Row” and the new trailer for “Jack Ryan” Season 2, the streamer revealed they have signed first-look deals with a slew of talent to develop film and television projects for them including actors/producers Blake Lively, Connie Britton, Lena Waithe and Forest Whitaker. They also suggest the event series “Good Omens” could return, Amazon saying “we’d love to do it” in regards to another season but they admit it’s up to Neil Gaiman now.

They’ve also handed out a bunch of cancellation orders. Those on the chopping block include the Michael Dorman-led “Patriot” which won’t return for a third season, the Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph-fronted comedy “Forever,” the horror anthology series “Lore,” and both Matt Weiner’s “The Romanoffs” and Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Too Old To Die Young” which both aired their first seasons this year.

At the same time, they’ve ordered the eight-episode international thriller series “The Banker’s Wife” based on the best-selling novel by Cristina Alger. Meredith Stiehm will write all eight episodes while Lesli Linka Glatter is lining up to direct – both have previously worked on “Homeland”. The series is set in the world of global finance and follows two women searching for answers when a mysterious plane crash sets them off on parallel pursuits of truth around hidden offshore accounts, money laundering and politics.

They’ve also set a September 27th premiere for the musical finale for “Transparent,” a September 13th launch for the rotoscope animation series “Undone” which hails from the creators of “BoJack Horseman,” and an October 18th premiere for the romantic comedy anthology series “Modern Love” which comes from John Carney (“Once”) and stars Anne Hathaway. Those three shows also have first-look trailers below.
