“Widows” Creator Teases Film Sequel

Author Lynda La Plante has created many famed works including “Prime Suspect” and “Widows,” the latter first adapted into an iconic 1980s mini-series which inspired filmmaker Steve McQueen to do last year’s acclaimed but underseen film version.

LaPlante appeared on UK talk show This Morning on Tuesday to discuss “Widows’ Revenge,” a book sequel that has just been published which revisits the main characters, who successfully pulled off a heist to repay their dead husbands’ debts, and are now living in Rio de Janeiro.

Discussing the book she says: “It’s very deeply about betrayal and revenge, and the need for it… we hope there’s possibly a movie”. The first film, which starred the likes of Liam Neeson, Viola Davis, Colin Farrell, Daniel Kaluuya, Cynthia Erivo, Robert Duvall and Jon Bernthal, was made for $42 million and grossed just $76 million worldwide.
