He’s still developing a new “Dune” and Daniel Craig wants him for James Bond, but it looks like filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has found his next project – the long in the works biopic of Ancient Egyptian Queen Cleopatra at Sony Pictures.
David Fincher, James Cameron and Paul Greengrass have all been linked to this particular take over the years which is based on the Stacy Schiff biography “Cleopatra: A Life”.
“Sicario” and “Arrival” director Villeneuve, coming off rave early reaction for his “Blade Runner 2049,” will be working from a script that the likes of David Scarpa, Eric Roth and Brian Helgeland have worked on previously.
At last report, Angelina Jolie wanted to play Cleopatra and that may still happen. The project aims to show the strategist, clever negotiator and ruthless leader that she was.
Scott Rudin and Amy Pascal will produce.
