Tyler Perry says he’s finally set to retire his iconic character creation Madea with next year’s “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” set to end the character once and for all.
Speaking on SiriusXM radio today whilst promoting “Nobody’s Fool,” Perry said: “This is it. It’s time for me to kill that old bitch. I’m tired. We’re gonna say goodbye in ’19. I just don’t want to be her age playing her.”
‘Funeral’ will be the eleventh and final film with Perry in the Madea role which he first played on film in 2005’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”. He also cameoed as the character in the “Meet the Browns” film and in two TV series.
Perry says he shot the film two years ago and originally planned to release it in between “Boo 2!” and his drama “Acrimony”. Instead, “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” will hit cinemas on March 1st 2019.
Perry also says he’ll be taking the character on a ‘farewell’ stage tour, including some of the original characters and actors from across the franchise of films.
