Oscar Isaac On Marvel Future, Palpatine Meme

In the meme world, somewhere above the likes of “It’s Morbin time” or “I’m gonna be a dad”, sits “Somehow, Palpatine returned”.

The famously derided quote, uttered by Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” has become a go-to quote for a return or revival of something without adequate explanation.

Speaking with Happy Sad Confused this week while promoting the second season of “Beef,” Isaac says he had no idea of the impact the line would have at the time.

In fact, he reveals it wasn’t in the original script and was added in the reshoots late in the process:

“Yeah, those were re-shoots. We had to do re-shoots. Because when I look at I’m like, the wig’s pretty good… Those are like those surgical strikes where you like come in, and they’re like scrambling trying to get everything going. That was like a new addition right at the end….

So there was a lot of movement and flux throughout that whole thing. But had you asked me if, at that moment, I thought that was going to be the one? [Laughs]. I wouldn’t have known… I mean, hey man, I mean I committed to the exasperation, that’s for sure.”

The actor also spoke about potentially reprising his Marvel Cinematic Universe role from “Moon Knight”. He revealed Marvel is considering a potential “Midnight Sons” movie which would potentially involve his character and others:

“Yeah, yeah. There was an interesting talk of ‘Midnight Sons’ and, again, it’s very tonally its really important because we’re playing with real stuff with that one. It’s expressing something very real and challenging, difficult. So…you really gotta take it seriously.”

Asked about the idea of Ryan Gosling possibly being the new MCU version of Ghost Rider and sharing the screen with him and Mahershala Ali’s Blade, he says: “Make it happen, fellas, it’s a no-brainer.”
