No-one still seems to be quite sure just how much or little the upcoming “Venom” movie will tie back to Sony’s revived “Spider-Man” franchise and in doing so becoming a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
All indications before now seemed to be that the currently filming R-rated “Venom,” starring Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams, stands apart from the MCU and so we shouldn’t expect current Spider-Man actor Tom Holland to appear.
However, documentary director Jon Schnepp (“The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?”) recently appeared on Collider’s Movie Talk and claims we’ll see Holland’s Spider-Man appearing in Venom:
“Spider-Man is going to be in Venom. For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man – and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – is going to be in Venom.”
Unlike ‘Homecoming,’ Marvel Studios isn’t involved in the production of “Venom” at all and thus has no say over developing characters that would exist in their universe. Production on the MCU film “Spider-Man: Homecoming 2” begins later this year for a 2019 release. That Hashtag Show also adds that Germany and UK are looking to be major locations in the film.
