Still out doing “Knives Out” promotion, filmmaker Rian Johnson says he’s very open to return to the “Star Wars” universe for more than just his proposed trilogy of new films.
Speaking with CinemaBlend recently, the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” helmer was asked if he would like to guest-direct an episode from the currently in production second season of “The Mandalorian”.
He responded: “Yeah! Man, if I had the time, I would get in there in a heartbeat. I had a set visit for Season 1 and it looked amazing. It looked like so much fun!”. Even though work on the new season is underway, no directors have been announced as of yet.
Johnson also revealed in the same interview that he knows nothing about this month’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” but was happy to comment saying:
“I don’t think J.J. needs any inspiration from me. I think he’s an incredible storyteller who I knew from the instant that I knew that he was doing [Episode] IX that he was going to figure out a way that was going to both surprise all of us and satisfy us deeply at the end of the saga… I want to sit down like a Star Wars fan and just get my popcorn and just be 10-years-old again and see this whole thing brought home in a beautiful way that surprises me…it’s Star Wars. It takes you there.”
“The Mandalorian” premiered on DIsney+ on November 12th and runs through to the end of this month. ‘Rise of Skywalker’ opens in cinemas December 20th.
